Sure, traditional salsa is always a good thing, but what about remixing it with fruit? Our own IBM Fellow Aleksandra Mojsilovic created this flavorful Plum Strawberry Salsa and recently featured it on her personal blog Three Little Halves.
Check out the recipe:
2 large, firm black plums
6-8 medium strawberries
about 6 small pickled capers
1-2 medium basil leaves, minced
1-2 tsp excellent quality aged balsamic vinegar (the salsa will be as good as your balsamic)
a drizzle (about 1 tsp) balsamic glaze
1 tsp good quality grassy extra virgin olive oil
a pinch of freshly ground black pepper
Rinse the capers well, until no acidity and saltiness remain. Finely chop the capers.
Cut the plums in half. Remove the seeds. Cut the plums into ½-inch dice. Cut the strawberries into ½-inch dice.
In a small bowl, mix the plums, strawberries, capers, basil, oil and vinegar. Mix well. Drizzle with balsamic glaze and sprinkle with pepper. Serve.
